Achievements in Recent Past at Dept. of CIS

  • The Department of CIS has successfully conducted an International Seminar on Emerging Trends in Information Science and Technology (ISETIST), January, 2017.
  • The Department completed a National Seminar on Recent Trends in Computer Applications, April, 2016.
  • The Department has tied up with the International Scientific Research Organization for Science, Engineering and Technology (ISROSET) for conducting knowledge events, and has already conducted one such event.
  • The Department of CIS has collaborated with the International Journal of Information Science and Computing (IJISC), New Delhi, for the publication of research work contributed by all stakeholders (students, faculty members and researchers).
  • The Department of CIS has organized a National Seminar (NSETIST-2019), funded by the Government of West Bengal, with technical sponsorship from IETE Kolkata.
  • The Department of CIS (PG & Research Section) has organized a National Symposium on Foundation and Advances in Computing (NSFARAC-2019) in collaboration with the Indian Academic Researchers Association (IARA), Trichy, India. PG, M.Phil. and Ph.D. students from more than 15 different departments participated.
  • The Department of CIS (PG & Research Section) has organized the first National Conference of Raiganj University, NACITMAC (National Conference on Emerging Trends of Information Technologies in Management & Commerce), held in June 2019.
  • The Department of CIS (PG & Research Section) has acted as an associate in organizing three International Conferences, 'International Conference on Recent Trends on Computing and Communications' (ICRICC), conducted by RCET (an engineering college under Anna University, Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, India), held in 2018, 2019 and 2020 respectively.
  • The Department of CIS introduced the BCA programme as a self-financed evening programme for the benefit of students in 2018.
  • The Department of CIS got its first substantive post (Assistant Professor) in 2018, and as a result, per the norms and initiative of the University, the Ph.D. and M.Phil. programmes were started.
  • The Department of CIS got its second officiating Head of the Department, Prof. (Dr.) K.S. Tiwary, who also holds the position of Dean (Science and Management), Raiganj University.
  • The Department of CIS introduced another subject, Computer Science, with the B.Sc. (H) Computer Science and M.Sc. in Computer Science, from 2019.
  • Dr. P.K. Paul, Assistant Professor (who also holds the position of Executive Director, M.Sc. CIS Programme since the beginning of the M.Sc. programme and the department's nomenclature as CIS), joined as the first Information Scientist of the University, as an additional charge, since 2019.
  • The Department also got more substantive posts, and as a result two more Assistant Professors joined — Dr. J.L. Dey (22-01-2020) and Dr. Arup Sarkar (11-02-2020) — in early 2020.
  • Dr. Laxminarayan Sahoo joined (18-02-2020) as the first Associate Professor in the Department of Computer and Information Science, from February 2020.

From Students’ Circle

  • Our BCA student Sushmita Bhattacharjee stood first in a Dance Competition (13th Global Harmony, 2017) among the host-deputed institutes at Malda, held at Pune, India.
  • Our M.Sc. CIS student Bishnu Raman Misir presented his paper at the International Conference on Recent Developments on Science, Technology, Humanities and Management (ICRDSTHM-17), and the paper has been published in the proceedings. His paper is also with IJCA, United States.
  • Our M.Sc. CIS student Pranay Biswas has published his research trend report on the Internet in UGC-approved journals.
  • Our M.Sc. CIS student Suchismita Das has presented her work at NSETIST-19 and also published it in an edited research-based book.
  • Our six M.Sc. CIS students — Pranay Biswas, Nantu Saha, Subhamay Sarkar, Aniruddha Dasgupta, Binod Barman, B.R. Misir, Kamini Sarkar and Siddhartha Choudhury — have been appointed as Technical Assistants as part of their project work, jointly undertaken by the PG Section and New Delhi Publishers, New Delhi, India.

From Faculty Circle

  • J.L. Dey, faculty member, Dept. of CIS, presented a paper at the International Conference on Recent Developments on Science, Technology, Humanities and Management (ICRDSTHM-17), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, via video call, and the paper has been published in the proceedings. His paper also awaits publication in IJCA, United States.
  • Shri S. Sen qualified in the GATE examination conducted by the IITs in 2017.
  • Dr. P.K. Paul chaired a session at the International Conference on Recent Developments on Science, Technology, Humanities and Management (ICRDSTHM-17), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and his keynote talk was also published in the proceedings. His paper also awaits publication in IJCA, United States.
  • Dr. P.K. Paul received the International Young Scientist Award from VirtualCom-2016 for contribution to the Health Information Science / Emerging Computing track, organized by ISROSET, India.
  • Dr. P.K. Paul received the Fellow position (FBSS) from the BSS, under the charter of TNSRO (affiliated to Vigyan Prasar, DST, Govt. of India), and also the Fellow position (FIARA) from the Indian Academic Researchers Association (IARA), India (both honorary).
  • Dr. P.K. Paul received the Distinguished Young Information Science & Computing Academician in Asia award in 2017, from IRDP Chennai, India.
  • Dr. P.K. Paul received the National Level Best Researcher Award-2017 and National Level Best Faculty Award-2018 from the Indian Academic Researchers Association (IARA), Tamil Nadu, India.
  • Dr. P.K. Paul received the David Clark Blair Best Young Scientist Award for contribution to Information Sciences, from the Bose Science Society, under the charter of TNSRO (affiliated to Vigyan Prasar, DST, Govt. of India).
  • Dr. P.K. Paul was appointed/honoured with the position of Honorary Professor at Logos University International (Florida, USA, with locations also in Brazil, South America, Serbia and Europe).
  • Dr. P.K. Paul received the International Digital and Social Informatics Think Tank Award-2020, from the Africa Information Technology Consultancy (AITC), Nigeria, West Africa.
  • Dr. P.K. Paul joined as the first substantive Faculty position (Assistant Professor) in 2018 (19th July onwards), with Information Science and Technology specialization, at the Dept. of CIS, Raiganj University.
  • Since joining, our faculty member Dr. P.K. Paul has published around 25 research-based edited and text books as sole or first author.
  • Since August 2020, Dr. L. Sahoo has served as Head, Department of Computer and Information Science.
